ZFG No More

As of yesterday, I have officially taken down ZFGGame.com.

The decision came down to a few compounding factors. The game was built on Unity 2021, a version that was later recalled due to a security vulnerability. Updating the project to a supported version proved more difficult than anticipated, and following the 2024 patch I chose to step back from ZFG and redirect my focus toward other work, including a project completed for the Xiled Ones YouTube channel.

The original plan was to return to ZFG with a meaningful update, including a new town build and Steam Deck compatibility running on the latest version of Unity. However, with little activity or engagement around the project, that momentum never quite returned. I later wrote two companion books to help close out the game’s story, though these too received a quiet reception.

With new projects on the horizon and hosting space becoming a practical consideration, keeping the site live until the domain expired was no longer viable. ZFG had to go.

I did manage to do a full playthrough for someone before the closure, covering the Easter eggs and original plans for the game, so that side of things is at least preserved for those who wanted it.

It was a project I genuinely enjoyed, and I’m grateful for the memories it brought. But it felt like the right time to close the chapter.

And to move forward with my next game. Which will be the game I’ve always wanted to make.

But till then Cheerio…
